Special shoutout to the repair site iFixit who are now on the Fediverse, you can follow them at:

➡️ @iFixit

They provide repair forums and free repair guides for phones, computers, consoles, kitchen equipment, tools, medical devices, cars etc. They also review and tear down new gadgets to see how repairable they are.

Repairing your existing stuff is much, much better for the environment than buying replacements.

Sometimes I stumble on stuff on youtube via its algorithm. This time a video about Gen 4 (HeartGold, Soulsilver, Diamond, Perl and Platinum) that explained how you can “time travel” in the games.

There are certain events which are time-based in the games and some are cheseable by setting the clock forward, but the game would check for that and penalize you for doing so.

The guy explains in the vid how he found an interesting method to travel safely on real hardware. The video was quite interesting.

You know whats the coolest thing though?

That person put their findings up on a written website (this one: https://sinjohruins.com/dsitimetravel.html) This is so cool. I don’t need to watch the vid over and over when I would want to perform the trick. I could just read a damn website and go step by step.

Just bring back websites and not hide stuff away on discord. a small “made my day” for you all

@amberage I have approvals on mine (not that I have any other users beside me lol)

I think approvals are like the nice middle ground. The only problem is you need someone to fish through the signups and approve or disapprove them.

MRF could solve a lot without the need to close signups. Maybe in a few years we might get it

@volpeon its to early in the morning lul. I thouhht you talked about flexibility in different UIs not a flexible UI. But yeah MRF is goated.

But yeah I just made a post in the same vain. It is kinda sad that this affects the whole fedi since spam and mastodon just does... nothing?

@amberage The thing that might here exists already in other software. MRF can do a lot of stuff in pleroma/akkoma and could likely mitigate a lot of the spam.

There is a issue open here: https://github.com/mastodon/mastodon/issues/29252 But when and if something like this can or will be integrated into mastodon. Or something else.

There would be other mitigation which might prevent spam but is not popular with bigger instances since it adds friction: Have limited sign-ups where someone needs to approve an account. Then spammers just could not register accounts. But what do I know akko_shrug

Lets hope something is done since this does not only affect mastodon but the whole fediverse and that nothing gets done is frustrating
