I'm enjoying European spring much more than spring in Toronto.

Just realised I didn't post all of my comic on Mastodon, which means i have lots of content to post!

Today Melissa Lewis over on BlueSky pointed out that the font used in the infamous “You wouldn’t steal a car” anti-piracy campaign was actually designed by Just van Rossum, whose brother, Guido, created the Python programming language (https://bsky.app/profile/melissa.news/post/3ln7hx5rhcj2v)

She also pointed out that the font had been cloned and released illegally for free under the name “XBAND Rough”. Naturally, it would be hilarious if the anti-piracy campaign actually turned out to have used this pirated font, so I went sleuthing and quickly found a PDF from the campaign site with the font embedded (https://web.archive.org/web/20051223202935/http://www.piracyisacrime.com:80/press/pdfs/150605_8PP_brochure.pdf).

So I chucked it into FontForge and yep, turns out the campaign used a pirated font the entire time!

Happy Easter! I dressed like this about two weeks ago and a young woman asked me if I was dressed for Easter and I said... I didn't even think about it.

@stefan Finally managed to write together that blogpost. While you can read it here on fedi I generally recommend reading it writefreely itself. Fedi might not like how I just hot-linked the images from my nextcloud, so they appear quite small on here. The images might take a bit too load upload at home from my nextcloud ain't the best

Here is the link if you need it: https://write.lightnovel-dungeon.de/a-long-way-to-my-first-proper-self-made-cosplay

TIL. LanguageTool isn't really working with libreoffice anymore. But there is WritingTool based on LanguageTool that works with LibreOffice. The world of forks is sure interesting...

The UK now has the world's first ETCS-enabled steam locomotive, because we're a very silly country.

When designers think outside the box. Studio Ghibli designed this DVD case to make it look like the characters are checking their reflection in the water.
Sweet!

When you load up Krita there's this like blog thingy in the right side panel, with links to what's new and chatter about what's coming.

The Krita folks have nailed the tone of this blog, because they've mixed in art competitions with the release notes. Lets you know there's a community of Krita artists who could probably help you out if you got stuck on something, and here's some paintings they did this month, and they're always awesome paintings, oh and yes the new text tool is coming pretty soon now, we're taking our time to make it nicer.

It's a lovely way to start a drawing session. Even if you don't engage with the community (or just haven't yet) it reminds you of all the other folk who are firing up this program right now, it puts them behind you and helps push your stylus forward with confidence.

I don't think I've ever felt "Oh, this is OUR software" about a computer program before. It's not just good software, it's cosy software

Weee I finished my Cosplay, mostly. There are some accessories missing like the ammo-bags and some fur trim. I think it turned out quite even considering some mishaps along the way (like some holes being in places where they not belong, a button hole that is... there [not visiable most of the time ], also I really messed up the hem on the jacket so its a bit than intentioned. But since the jacket was longer anyway it worked out. Though both sites are not perfectly straight as a result. Managed to safe it atleast. I might add the fluff to get it straight again.

Lessons were learned for sure. But it looks good I think.

Have some photos. I will waffle about the whole thing in a blogpost. Lots to talk about ^^"
