I just be fortunate enough not see alot of that. That one instance might be dansup or something. But normally my bubble is fairly free of shitty behaviour. I pick people I follow and only really look at my follow-timeline. I never use the federated one. That said I am a single user on my server so it would not look too different. Your post just made it to me as someone I follow boosted it. And it seemed like an interesting thing to me.

generally I do trust the people I follow to not be shit. And people use stuff responsibly or sometimes for fun. Though I do also see why quotes might be considered problematic. But tbh bad actors will be bad no matter.

Also you guys get notifs for posts you yourself boost?

Or do you mean when you get a notif when someone boosts your post? I thought for some time to disable those "x boosted your post" and "x favorited your post" thingies.

Though the favorites can be a nice indicator of "x has seen your post" as well. But they also can clutter up your notifs quickly. Maybe burriying the notifs for replys.

@stephaniepixie tools given can be used in many ways. It will highly depend on your bubble and for the servers the communities they nurtured.

There is so much controversies around edits and quote post. Other software (read not mastodon) had that stuff for some time shows that it can work.

But its that people just need to not be assholes. In my circles is either used for correcting mistakes after posting (how I use it mostly) or to add information learned later to the original post.

Quotes are kinda the same. It is also kinda funny that you show how kinda useless mastodons proposal for “controlling quote-posts” is.
