Reports are now added as complaints about the user and are displayed on the users profile. More reports on you, the less trust people may have.
#Fedicate #Fediverse #FediBlock #FediReport #Report #FediverseReporting
@Fedicate does it list the people who reported the profile? As shown in the screenshot
I can't even imagine the harassment that the reporters will get from they people they report and their followers. This would certainly have a chilling effect on people submitting reports, if they are named
@webhat We currently have a report feature that does require your username, as #Fediblock is already done with usernames. We will most likely be looking into anonymous ways to report but obviously if anyone can report anyone and stay hidden it could cause mass false reports.
We are not an instance, it's just a database for these reports but we'd love to hear how you'd change this for the better to protect people.
@dnddeutsch No we are building a platform for a mix of Fediblocking Reports as well as Users, Instances and Software a lot like FediDB but with more functions (currently manually managed)
@Fedicate but your putting people who have been reported for whatever reason on display, aren't you?
@dnddeutsch They are on display to help people block them, a lot like #FediBlock does.
@Fedicate I'm following Fediblock and it has been misused for personal feuds and misreports of many kinds. The good thing wirh Fediblock is, that these reports scroll away. I'm sure you have good intentions, but putting people on lists without their consent is a recipe for disaster.
@dnddeutsch So what's the difference between FediBlock and this? FediBlock is open to anyone using it, If you don't want to use the service you don't have to, we have other things than just blocking... I'm sorry I might not understand where you are coming from.
@Fedicate I'm also sceptical of using fediblock to report single persons. Sure, if it's a swastica sporting monster or something in the likes of that, I couldn't care less. But fediblock is too often used for personal feuds and misreports. From what I understand of your service, you're making an easily digestable directory of these often questionable reports.
@Fedicate Oh boy another FediBlock-List. Not here to name and shame though (for now)
I do have quite some questions though. So from what I can gather this is some kind of Fediblock-super-list with permanent and easily searchable records.
One can have very differing opinions on if thats good ot not. I just want to ask some general questions.
Such a project lives and dies on the basis of openness and trust first and foremost. And in that regard your website atleast is lacking much critical information/documentation. Atleast its good to hear that reports will be manually vetted.
Please outline the process of getting a report on the site and the possibilities of appealing a report on the website in an easy to understand manner.
Are you able to verify if a person is actually the holder of an account they want to report someone with?
How do you plan fighting falsified reports?
How will you decide what is considered a truthful report and what is a fraudulant report?
Will your desicions and the conclusions you came to be public knowledge as well? (basically: Will you be open about your reasoning and make it availiable for scrutiny?
Who are the people behind this project and why should I trust you to run this project in good faith to begin with?
Will you give the recipient of a report a chance to chip in their POV before taking a desicion?
Do you have enough people to work going through these reports?
Are you aware of your own biasis? And what is your plan to avoid biased decisions on what is put on the list?
Will the “receipts” for a claimed report also be public knowledge?
Have you thought about the legal requirements like a privacy policy, imprint (depending on country of operation), GDPR-rules and other Data-protection laws in other countries?
1. Yes we need to outline the way the reports will work, we are currently very early days.
2. We actually message the account that reports a user for further information about the report, so yes.
3. We need evidence for the reports to be verified, screen shots are alright but a link to the issue is even better.
4. We originally made it for super bad actors, such as Nazis making it public knowledge to block instances for there issues. Obviously it comes down to evidence again.
5. The reason for someones report will be put publicly on the platform. We have made it so people can report anonymously but privately will have the reporter (out of our database) logged to solve a report.
6. Currently it's only one person @sam I've been using the Fediverse for close to 2 years now and trying to make the Fediverse a safe space.
7. Yes recipients are allowed to contact this account about reports, and we are open to contacting them about the report for transparency.
@stefan
8. Currently reports are slow, we are open to having something set up to have reports reviewed but we need to make sure each report is looked at fairly. (To be honest I wasn't expecting the project to get this much attention)
9. Yes as a Trans person, anti-trans things can be one of the ways I could be 'bias' but I am open about removing reports if needed (If I made a mistake / it's been solved) and if needed I'm happy to bring things to vote if I feel I'm to bias for a choice.
10. I'm not 100% what you mean by receipts for the reports, but all the data we collect for the reports get put on the database if the claim is 'true' otherwise the data is deleted.
But we are open to when having talks with the reported user to be public if needed.
11. Privacy policies are something we are looking into, this is a project that I threw together with learning how to code better websites in about a week, The data we collect is all public such as usernames & instasnces
I'd like to just add even know I feel hurt about people's hatred for the project it is great to hear people like you that want to make sure it is safe and respectful as a source for the Fediverse.
Happy to hear any of your thoughts about my answers and how I can improve Fedicate in the future.
@Fedicate You see I generally have much disdain for such projects as many other people on fedi. There is a lot scorched earth around these types of projects.
But thank you for answering honestly. Please make sure to provide as much info on the website itself.
There are these kinds of lists that used to put instances on them for the most bogus reasons and many projects use these lists as their base. The latest Culmination was The Bad Space, which is just plain bad and has many, many bad infos listed.
There is such stuff listed for reasons as “alt-fedi” (what the hell that is I dunno), or banning certain Instances for using specific software (pleroma most of the time since its “nazi”) or listing instances since they are “ adjancent” to “known bad actors”. And in general being very unresponsible with the list which will be used blindly by admins.
Generally I would suggest to NOT use this as the base for your list and start from scratch. Everything else is asking for trouble. Even going through fediblock is ill-advised if you not check every report for its autheticity.
Also you generally might need more people to the team since workload might become an issue for a single person.
Good luck with your project and please make sure that you are working in good-faith and as open as possible.
@stefan Thank you for the suggestion, we have removed the reports feature and are instead replacing it with Endorsement's allowing people to give positive feedback of users or instances instead.
