I wonder if anyone's ever considered a group chat + forum combined into one thing
Something where you can combine the ease of communication of Discord/Slack but the permanence of a phpBB all in one place. Would be cool if you could also take a conversation and just turn it into a forum post or something.

emily@sparkly.uni.horse@jbauer $past_job had a slack button that would take a slack thread so far and slap it into a discourse thread for further discussion, it was pretty neat

Even if discord goes down the drain another service more shitty and proprietary as the last will take its place.

@mikoto @volpeon @jbauer Ye I do like Matrix for 1:1 chats its great. But the groups (from what I heard) leave a lot to be desired. Mod-Tools and stuff to differentiate themselves.
There is that Custom-Emote MSC that is open for literal years rn (great feature some clients took to themselves to implement)
And then there is that garbage-fire called synapse that even element.io knows is shit. But the developement of the new thing takes its precious time.

@mikoto just be aware there is stuff that might just not work lol.
I have some problems with the matrix.org server and encrypted DMs (but its really only them and I dunno if thats cause they blacklisted / banned my server lol)
