@stefan at least it's just sucralose being used in this, and not one of those other sweeteners that give you the runny shits akko_badday

@fristi my problem witth artificial sweeteners is rather that they taste sweet but there is no sugar in there. At least I heard its not that nice when it comes to insulin and shit.

@stefan this depends heavily on the specific sweetener and also the form it comes in. There are some sweeteners like xilitol or stevia that have certain side effects, like acting as a laxative when consumed a little too much.

But in general, by themselves, most of these artificial sweeteners to not metabolise like sucrose would and do not require insulin for metabolation. Thus, they have no negative effects for diabetics.

The problem comes when you buy artificial sweeteners in solid form. Some of these sweeteners are many times stronger in taste than regular sugar, so you need only a very tiny amount of it to make something taste sweet. So little in fact that dosing isn't practical, since you'd need mere milligrams of it. It's like trying to add one exact salt particle to something.

So in solid form, the sweeteners get combined with some form of a filler substance, to add volume. It's these fillers that often are the problem. Sucralose for instance often gets mixed with dextrose or maltodextrin, which introduce a risk for diabetics, since those two break down to regular sucrose.
