Mastodon.art not letting some people follow me instantly, and instead putting them on "Follow requests", sounds so eerie. Like, what do they think they might do to me 😭

@wallmask3 Are those people also on art or somewhere else? But generally every user has the ability to limit who can follow them. Follow requests are a nice middleground between open follows and no follows at all. The person gets to decide who can follow them or not

2/3 of them are from mastodon.social ... though unlike BlueSky, this doesn't seem to be the default instance? Yeah this is still confusing 😅

@stefan I'm not limiting follows as I don't like that setting, but apparently my Instance still thinks they're suspicious (I just learned this is about Instances)
The Deck version for desktop that I use and the App I choose for android doesn't show the notifications of these people wanting to follow me, so I'm always missing them

@wallmask3 usually, thats done on the instance level.
so a moderator goes "thats probably not what our users are expecting, but its not against the rules", and puts the instance on "limited".

@wallmask3 Oh so it was actually about your account. I see. I thought you tried following other people.

It might have to do with the fact that your instance (mastodon.art) does a lot of moderation. I have seen that you wrote in another posts that its mostly mastodon.social accounts where this happens. Looking at the block-list of mastodon.art you will find that your admin has "silenced" stuff from mastodon.social

It might have to do with that. You can always ask your admin about it as well

@stefan I am a super normie here and don't understand Mastodon at all. I found that block-list now and, uhn, wow. 😅 So much I am not aware there~ The Art instance seems smaller than I thought too, now. I made no research and am just using here without thinking
