@mia you weren't wrong tho. Dogpiling people doesn't change their worldview, it makes them defensive and more hardened in their viewpoint.

@mia I guess thats easy when you go against what is deemed "acceptable" or whatever. But tbh I do wish people would just talk with each other in a more level-headed manner sometimes. And not fucking escalate everything.

But "politics" (real one or internet one) be like that sadly. This exact behaviour is also what radicalises people and shoves them more into the corner and furthers a "us vs. them" mentality. Just gotta look at the far-right to know what I mean...

@eris @mia tbh I'm personally not that concerned with a dude who, from what I understand, had plenty of coddling already, but with the chilling effect of seeing outrage mobs branding someone a fash for not siding with them 100%, combined with corpos providing important services with no clear rules, and bowing down to whoever shouts loud enough (there were already people suggesting mass reporting the ladybird repo to github)

when I first set up a fedi instance I thought the worst thing that could happen would be that someone gets it to serve CSAM through the federated TL (that I can just disable for this reason) and I'll have to talk to cops, but now I'm researching which registrar/hosting ignores all reports except for legal, using different registrars for different domains, moving my stuff from ovh to buyvm, etc.
