@epsi I might do the same down the line if my 6800 xt stops being useful to me, might end up upgrading my cpu/mobo/ram first though

@epsi or you could get yourself a cheaper amd one akko_fingerguns (tbh I dunno if linux actually supports the new features of the RTX-stuff)

If you use windows on that rig (which is valid) that is no problem.

You can do a lot of ML-stuff with nvidia cards on linux though.

@epsi I was thinking the same but GPU and hardware prices in general are just awful these days

GPUs are so weak now and cost so much money..

@epsi i dont have an option because of Blender and laptops

Blender has simply supported Nvidia RT for way longer and its way faster, and laptops basically only come with RTX units nowadays

@epsi you might have to do some research though. not super sure about nvidia on linux myself.

@epsi @stefan there's some beta nvidia drivers with explicit sync support, combined with kde plasma 6.1 or the next version of GNOME and it should be pretty much on par with where amd/intel is reliability-wise

@mikoto @epsi does the stuff you would buy nvidia over amd work on linux though? Like raytracing and stuff?

@stefan @epsi raytracing does work on linux even with my amd card (though it doesn't run that great obviously), not sure about the dlss 3 stuff (dlss 2 does work though)

@mikoto @epsi dlss is way less of a deal I suppose since you can use FSR for a lot of stuff instead if really needed.

@epsi
I wouldn't trust nvidia to get better support. How is Intel Arc support in Linux world? The new generation Arc card should release this year and it should be aggressively priced like the previous gen. Since Proton already translates the game to vulkan there shouldn't be weird legacy api driver issues.

@susie I use a A380 for some time now. They work fine by now with everything* (* you may need a new enough kernel but thats it.)

I have gamed on that thing as well. It does work on linux, I may actually want to upgrade to a bigger one like an A750 since the A380 does have its limits sadly.
