@epsi cause people who use matrix.org as their server encounter billions of encryption issues on a weekly basis and think the entire software is broken while a proper non-overloaded matrix server doesn't have these issues. Like literally any time I encounter someone having issues it is because they're on the main flagship server matrix.org
That's like registering on mastodon.social and then saying the fediverse would be bad and unmoderated
@epsi I use it every single day for love letters and don't encounter any issues ever
Last time I encountered issues was someone telling me they couldn't decrypt my messages and they were on matrix.org, so they switched to our universities' matrix server and have since never encountered any issues again as well
@epsi yeah, it really kinda just works. I heard administrating an instance would be a nightmare, I had a look into both xmpp and matrix administration and it honestly didn't really feel that much different 🥴
@epsi ah, right, the last complaint I hear all the time is that element is the only proper fully functioning client and that it's electron so it's bad and yeah I guess, fair
Still prefer it over the xmpp client situation personally 🙈
@epsi ahhh yeah I guess the only real non-electron option here might be Telegram 🥴🥴🥴🥴🥴🥴
@isibell @epsi well, it's not super frequent but consider:
* browser switching: new element session
* getting a new phone, or switching the mobile client: new session
and I do the whole verification stuff, QR code and symbol things, and it logs in the new device fine, but it doesn't share the keys reliably.
sometimes it works when the chat is open on both devices...and sometimes it doesn't.
@epsi I see lots of people talking about Matrix by the means of Element, but what about Beeper?
@epsi It's a new Matrix based app for grouping all your messaging platforms into one. It's from the people that made that Beeper Mini app that once tried to bring iMessage to Android.
