bandwidth is so cheap now that webm is no longer needed and we should simply return to posting gifs, but now we can make them tens of megabytes in size

thank you for coming to my ted talk

@rick (it's probably my fault to be fair since i "only" have a 100 mbit connection)

@quad @rick Plus progressive load is likely better handled in <video> these days

@lanodan @rick i dunno. i think it's more about the fact that a gif just plays frame by frame with each block of data being a dead simple diff to make a new "frame". there isn't even much progressive loading to be done.

compared to a video where you can pause it or rewind it, in the case of a gif you have to watch it slowly and excruciatingly play at like 0.1 fps until it's finally done a single loop

@quad @rick going for broke are we? blobcatjoy

I did consider hosting at home again as well but that can be kinda shit when stuff breaks (like hardware-wise) also fuck my ISP doing forced reconnencts every day on Ipv6-only with DS-Lite

@stefan @rick My ISP doesn't even have reliable IPv6, I sure wish they did. But on my uplink at home their DHCP-PD server will just be unavailable for months at a time.
