@kura frankly i'm happy as long as more users learn that replacing windows on their computer is not as terrifying as many seem to think it is.

@quad the issue up to now was that only techies recommended it. But with pdp a normie did now as well.

really the main problem most users have is that they don't want change. almost every user SAYS they want something different, but if you give them something different they complain it doesn't work exactly like the old thing and they're not willing to change some settings to make it work like they want. really sad tbh

the only reason switching to a macbook works is usually because it's a $1000+ investment, so unlike with linux they can't easily backpedal after 3 days

Honestly, Linux has gotten very nice for regular everyday tasks, and gaming and media producer usage (DaVinci, blender,…) is also coming very strong nowadays…

@kura well, unfortunately people don't want to switch software either.

while it is true that GIMP isn't as good as Photoshop and lacks many common features, especially when it comes to layers and masks. A lot of users are really basic users and only use it to make memes it seems, they're only mad because it doesn't have content-aware delete most of the time.

@quad pewdiepie did praise gimp btw when he was talking about canceling Adobe Photoshop

@kura well yeah, my point. people complain it's not as good as photoshop.

but honestly it's good enough to do the things most of the complainers seem to want, they just don't want to learn a new set of buttons and keybinds

@quad @kura there was also a very different kind of post emerging. Some people are actively warning projects to tighten their CoCs and enforce rigorously because pewds fanbase is seen as "facists". Dunno how mich truth there is to that though since I don't engage much with mainstream-youtubers.

Generally I think its good to have more takes from more "normal" people on linux. And from I heard pewd makes a good effort to state his opinion on his setup for whom it might be and for whom not. Haven't watched the vid myself. So take this as second-hand knowledge

@stefan @kura bah those people would probably call me a fascist as well. i doubt pewds has many users who would actually contribute code anyways, worst case some annoying issues pop up in the tracker for a while asking for user support i'd reckon

@quad @kura likely. I mean even aety got called a facist. Godwins law in action. But tbh I am in the wait and see camp on this one. A fresh outside perspective can sometimes be very useful, though as you say I also can't see a lot of people from his fanbase actively contribute. I mean heck even people who use it very much daily often ain't contributing to the linux ecosystem (consider me one of these)

@stefan @kura not exactly a huge contributor myself. i have dumped some open source tools on the internet, but it's not like anyone besides me actually uses them to my knowledge, and none of them are OS related anyhow
