With the Google announcement that I won’t have control over the software I am installing on my Androud device, I am thinking about getting my next Fairphone with e/OS/, but… I fear that then a few functionalities won’t work anymore because of blobcatshrug2

Like the banking app just refuses to be usable or shit like this. I wouldn’t mind e.g. buying another Threema licence or stuff like this, but it just have to work… Not sure this is that easily doable with a degooglefied device akko_thonk

@igwigg yes, thats exaclt the reason I am reluctant…

I installed Linage OS on an old tablet years ago, but that wasn’t my daily drive. Thinks that won’t work on there are just not important.

But to get an e/OS/ phone just to try it out is a risk (even thought some users here will tell me that I don’t need all those apps) and getting a burner device just to try out is way to expensive…

@Erpel threeema should work just fine without google. Now banking apps can be tricky for sure. I dunno if they require google components a 100% (I could think of a reason myself) I just know most will refuse to run on rooted-devices neocat_blep

What certainly won't work is push notifs for many apps though

@stefan well… there is another problem…
I need a few of them, even though I try to use only Fdroid apps for the important ones…

@Erpel I know that pain for sure. Its why I have lineage with MicroG (google service reimplementation).

I could check in for you if stuff would generally. Some phones flying around I could test with no google stuff.

The apps themselves you can still get via Aurora Store. Though having a google account attached to that one also helps a bit with downloads. But you technically do not have to
