This 80s/90s recorded guitar lesson video series is like "you should get yourself a department store electric keyboard, they usually have a drum machine to keep beat which is more fun than a metronome. Most households have one of these floating around!" (this was before internet drum machines ofc)

Excuse me sir, when the hell did the majority of households have an electric keyboard just sitting around.

@epsi in the 80s and 90s, everyone I knew had some Casio or another. I did as well. They definitely had a moment

"you can buy a 100 drum pattern keyboard within $100-$150 range" (he means USD)

In 1999, he recommends a Yamaha PSR-79. At my local, for just the drum machine (no keyboard) you hit $150 CAD ($106 USD) at cheapest, with 60 patterns and 120 fills. I was curious how the prices have changed over time.

Luckily there's online drum machines.

@epsi Both parents and grandparents had one of those thingies at home; none of them actually plays it

Think it ends up being a plaything of us the (grand)kids lole (pressing things is always fun!) haha

@stefan it's been fun, I'm still bad and my song repertoire is crap but I think I need a revisit to basics instead of noodling

@epsi basics will certainly aid you well in everything. Just keep practicing, you will get there eventually. Remember to have fun along the way as well-
