@quad huh, I have not noticed any new packaging at my store (it's a big one)

@xian this is pretty recent at my local store at least. it's probably only been a month or two since i bought the one on top. it was also a single, i don't really buy doubles since i don't consume enough knekkebrød for it to be worth the pantry space.

it's really obvious though. because most of the wasa knekkebrød packages are now pretty square, but they were clearly rectangular before. some of the packs were still rectangles though, like husman and havre.

it seemed like all the lighter ones were square. so i'd guess the ones that rely most on plain wheat are shrinkflated. the healthier stuff made of more whole grains or rye appear unchanged

@xian it's probably only a matter of time before it hits your local store as well. because even on wasa's swedish website, it's blatantly obvious that certain types like frukost and fiber balance are now smaller than the others

@quad ah, i mostly buy husman and havre so I maybe missed it. I'll take a peek at my ICA when I'm there next week.

unfortunately it was limited edition so it seems to be gone from all my local stores now. i'll miss it

@quad I remember I liked the ham one when I was like, 8

But I have not eaten it for over 15 years so idk what it would taste like anymore, probably terrible (since I'm not used to it lol)

@xian i ate the ham one, because the Rema stores in Norway have a limited 275g tube on sale for 39kr. it was alright, bit boring though.

when i was a kid/teen i used to fuck with the paprika one. haven't seen it in ages though, seems to be discontinued

@quad shrinkflation sure is a think. I noticed it with cheese and some cereals recently... it is kinda infuriating to see. I like that stuff even though it is generally more expensive. The pacs getting smaller I hate it

@stefan Norway has had pretty hefty import fees on international "råvarer" (lit. "Raw Wares"), unsure if there's a decent english equivalent, "ingredients" doesn't quite do it. due to these fees we were quite self-sufficient for food relatively okay while the rest of the world was going mad about this.

but i guess the buffer has run low or companies are getting greedy, because throughout 2024 and 2025 food over here has also started to inflate in price, or shrinkflate in size. really sad.

@quad Norway sure is very protective with their imports ey?

@stefan well for food it's mostly staples we can make ourselves. most notably raw meat.

but most cheap store brand stuff is still imported. because if you make your pizza in italy and freeze it, it's no longer raw meat so it's still cheaper to import that into norway rather than producing locally.

@stefan Norway is in this weird situtation where stuff that other countries consider premium, is the cheap stuff over here.

Our cheap frozen pizzas and lasagnas are made in Italy.
Bad bread products are made in Germany or France.
And Swiss chocolate is the cheaper option, rather than Norwegian chocolate.

@quad I feel offended by the "bad bread" remark blobcatjoy

It surely is an interesting situation over in norway

@stefan By "bad bread" i mean if you were to for example buy a frozen microwave burger, including bun, that's the kind of thing we're likely to import from germany. Not your actual good bread.

Norway might be rich, however the prices and taxes are so high that our purchasing power is about the same as most other north European countries.

However it means that once we leave our country everything feels cheap af.

@quad I see blobcatjoy

Norway just wants you to feel humble by making everything expensive
