@rick @bahi0u I still had to look up just to be sure. But yeah a dress is always a one-piece affair consisting of a torso-piece and the open part waist, which is actually called a skirt. So basically a skirt is technically a dress with the body chopped off.

Though skirts seemed to have existed for longer and then were made into dresses for women according to wiki

only swiss people are being special again: (from the german wiki):

In der Schweiz bezeichnet Rock das einteilige Kleid als solches – ein Kleid bildet dort eine mehrteilige Einheit; der untere Teil (ohne angenähtes Oberteil) wird mit dem französischen Wort Jupe (IPA:ʒyp) bezeichnet.

To translate for poor baihou: in switzerland the word “skirt” is actually used for the one-piece dress. The dress as we know it is a more-piece thingie in switzerland seemingly. They seem to call the thing we would call a skirt a “Jupe”.

@stefan @rick @puniko Ok thanks for all the info ! i think why most of my confusion comes from is the word Jupe and my lack of exposition on fashion.
thanks again

@epsi @kura Don’t wait to get good, or you’ll end up like me: spending more than a decade waiting to get good to post drawings
the truth is as an artist you’ll never get good in your own eyes, at least most skilled artist do (which is ironic and sad to think about) Karl Kopinski is a good example

@epsi @kura sorry, i meant that in a encouraging way like.. Don’t worry about being good, just draw, that’s how you’ll actually get good, even tho you won’t feel like it yourself. I assure you you are way better than you think

@bahi0u @epsi thats the main thing. you will always find things you critique yourself on. but others will still have sparkly eyes for your art.

@bahi0u @epsi this an “issue” with any form of craft (digital or analog).

take cooking for example. you will most of the time find things you could and want to do better. but others enjoy your food most of the time, despite your “short comings”. (unless you really did cook stuff down to charcoal)

@bahi0u @epsi and i do enjoy both of your arts.
