Okay folks. It's time.
For Linux desktop thread!
Share your Linux desktop in this thread, no matter what DE or WM or whatever you use!
I want to see them! Just make sure you have no personally identifiable information showing, of course!
Here's mine, though I change wallpapers all the time lol.
@aks not much to see here since I'm still running boring ol' gnome
@aks Just shared it earlier, but here's it again with a Fastfetch output:
@aks Here's my humble laptop setup, the buttons and margins are so large because it's in tablet mode btw
@aks fedora gang
edit: oh yeah it says toolbox container image because this is atomic KDE lol
@aks My own Sway config, nothing fancy, but it's comfy and does the job! Most importantly, it's mine!
Happy #DesktopFriday
@aks Nothing to see in my case 🚸 the wallpaper was created a long time ago by myself, everything else is hidden and controlled just by the keyboard. The WM is Plasma 6 and KDE (of course). But honestly, I don't know a lot about KDE. It's just there.
BTW: of course I'm a terminal user and keyboard junkie 🙂 wouldn't make much sense in every other case.
@aks It's stock GNOME with a stock wallpaper, it's not worth screenshotting. I've usually got windows covering my whole desktop so I rarely see the background anyway.
@aks Debian Bookworm with an artwork by @davidrevoy
@aks I have a very simple setup. Nothing to see really.
LeftWM config: https://git.efertone.me/efertone/config-leftwm
Background image: https://git.efertone.me/efertone/config-leftwm/src/branch/main/themes/efertone/wallpapers/trans-background-by-efertone.png (totally free to use)
@aks Cool wallpaper ! :)
Nothing much on mine, though the wallpapers are a bit busy ! (But the colors feel good to me)
Maybe just the monitoring graphs up in the panel, and my overly complicated bash prompt ?
@aks Not much to see there. 😅 (The wallpaper is picked at random on each reload of my WMs config file)
@aks Basic dwm with a mix of other people's and my own patches.
@aks i Yearn for tiling window manager (inaccessible to me due to how weird my setup is and how i manage it)
kde plasma 6.2, i need to fix my fastfetch config to display more than nothing
@aks I used to put so much love into customizing my window manager setup including making custom themes and stuff. I should try the other surviving linux window manager one of these days.
@quincetart10 @aks Yeah, I've seen tablet mode on my Minisforum V3 when I detach the keyboard. It was the first tablet that it seemed to work with; I couldn't get a different 2 in 1 (that has since been returned) to get it to trigger no matter what I did...
That's why I'm glad it exists!
@aks Back in 2006 - 2010 when I regularly ran windowmaker I had a little "applet" that was a fish tank where the water level was memory usage and it would have bubbles rising in it when the CPU usage was high, and below it I had another applet which was a flame that indicated CPU load. I miss doing stuff like that :(
@mr_grey i really love the simple desktops like this. I would probably have something similar if i wasnt into Plasma so much
@cameronbosch @aks It only gets enabled when it detects a touchscreen, but no touchpad or mouse (according to the settings app), or when you enable it in System Settings -> General Behavior -> Touch Mode
@aks Now days I get the feeling the gnome devs expect me to be thankful that they still lets me change the desktop image without registry hax 😭
@quincetart10 @aks On an Asus 2 in 1 laptop (the ROG Flow x13 2023), it wouldn't trigger even when the screen was flipped all the way back, likely because it was missing Linux drivers for over a year. I don't know if they ever were added because I returned it.
